When I think of research.....
Before I started EDCU 6163 I knew very little about research. I realized that it takes many steps to plan an effective research study. While planning my research simulation I kept hitting dead ends. I questioned myself at every step. Research is not easy at all. Whatever you plan do in a research study has to be approved and if is wrong you have to fix it. I tip my hat to those who do research for a living. It takes countless hours reading, looking, and conducting your study. Some challenges that I kept running into was wording. I was having a hard time wording things in the way that I wanted to say them so that others could understand what I meant. To fix this challenge I talked to others that I let read over my papers. I found that if I could explain to them what was going on in my head then they could help me figure out how to word correctly. Another challenge I had when doing research was understanding. I continually became confused with the terminology of research. To understand the terminology I found myself googling words. Sometimes it took me looking at three or four definitions to finally get a word. As an early childhood professional I now see the importance of research. Research is done in such a way that it benefits the children. I know see that when we are told to try a new way of teaching because research has proven it works. I think after going through this course I will take the time to listen to the research and give it a chance, because I now know what it takes to go through the process.

Hi Undrea,
ReplyDeleteI also found the process of designing a research project very challenging! So much to consider!! Along with the wording and correct use of terminology, this past week I have learned the importance looking at an issue through fair and just eyes. Like you, I tip my hats to all of those researchers that are contributing to the early childhood field.
Thanks for your informative posts and comments throughout the past 8 weeks and have a fantastic summer with your family!
I can identify, I had some of the same struggles during this course. What was going on in my head wasn't matching with what I was writing. I had the process in my head figured out but I realized it was unclear. I too agree that research is a lot more difficult than it appears. I never had any idea how much goes into this job and is very time consuming, and can almost become frustrating because I too seemed to be hitting dead ends. I think it's something we all have to keep practicing at.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that many of us struggled with the same challenges. I too knew what I wanted to say, but found it difficult to put on paper. I find research to be a very complex process. I've gained a new level of respect for research professionals, because regardless of the complexities, research can be very rewarding as it seeks to enhance better outcomes for children and society as a whole.
ReplyDeleteHey Undrea
ReplyDeleteJust as yourself I knew VERY little information of research due to my background and I also found myself running into deadends that made my scrathing my head which made things even more confusing and frustrating. But the more I continued with the class I came to the realization of asking for assisting can take you a long way.
