Child Development and Public Health

According to www.mumsweb.com Breast milk is perfectly suited to the baby it's made for. If a baby is born prematurely, that mother's milk will be higher in iron than it would have been had the baby gone to full term. As each baby grows, mother's breasts produce milk which changes in volume and composition to meet the baby's changing needs.
Breastfeeding is meaningful me because I breastfeed my son for the first 4 months. I felt that it was a bonding experience. I feel closer to my son because of it. I have also noticed that he does not get sick as much as other children. I found that people in the United States do not breastfeed as much as people in the other countries. In India breastfeeding is a necessity for the poor people who live in the slums, but in the middle and upper class breastfeeding is becoming less common because the women are being consumed by being working mothers. I find that more women need to breastfeed. I will use this knowledge to tell more women about breastfeeding. I will do my part by breastfeeding any future children I have. I want more women to protect their children like I did against illness.

  1. Hi Undrea,

How fascinating! I had no idea that breastfeeding was linked to helping chidren avoid illness. I was unaware of the benefits when I had my son. I think today that doctors should pass along more current research pamplets!

  2. I wasn't aware of all the positive impacts breastfeeding had on the development of the child when I had my daughter, but now I wish I did. It would be interesting to know if breastfeeding has long time effects on the health of the child.

  3. I agree that breastfeeding has many wonderful benefits for both mother and child. It can also be very challenging and I love seeing more and more local places for mothers to go to get assistance and advice while breastfeeding. I breastfed all of my children but found with my first two children it was very difficult and I felt as if I did not produce enough milk. With my last child, my son, it was much easier. I wish it had been as easy the first two times. Like you, I feel a special bond with each of my children.

  4. I have to agree and say that breastfeeding is the most sufficient way to ensure that a child is receiving all of his or her nutrients. I also realize that a child that is breastfeed has a stronger immune system compared to one that is raised off of baby formula
